Green Smoothie Recipes for Kids

All parents want their kids to eat healthy foods. However, this is easier said than done. The availability of fast foods and junk food has made it more difficult for kids to eat a nutritious meal. This is sad considering that obesity, diabetes and other medical conditions now affect many children. Get kids started on green smoothies and show them that healthy food can be delicious too.

When kids are brought up on healthy food they will learn to love it and look for it. Kids will learn to love green smoothies if you make them from kid-friendly recipes. After all, green smoothies are just fruit smoothies with leafy greens thrown in.

A smoothie provides all the nutrients that you would want your child to have for the day, including fiber. Insoluble fiber fills you up and keeps the digestive tract clean.

It’s interesting to note that green smoothies can help underweight kids (and adults) put on weight. On the other hand, overweight children and adults lose weight safely when they eat green smoothies.

When making these nutritious smoothies, remember that the darker the leaves, the more nutrients you’ll find in the vegetable. Spinach, collard greens and kale are excellent examples of nutrient-rich vegetables. Blend them with bananas and other fruits for a delicious beverage.

Green Smoothies Are Nutritious

Green smoothies are high in Vitamins A, C, E and K. They are also rich in calcium. Many people think that leafy greens are poor sources of protein but that is a misconception. Green leafy vegetables are excellent sources of amino acids, the building blocks of proteins. By eating a wide variety of greens, you’ll be able to get all the essential amino acids you need.

There’s another reason why smoothies are more nutritious than whole vegetables. Blending the greens breaks down the cellulose and cell walls, releasing the nutrients that are locked inside. Thus, the  nutrients can be absorbed more readily.
